Am I Worth It? A Story of Confidence and Self-Love

Young me was timid.

Growing up in a modest family of Italian descent, we rarely went to restaurants.

We were told that it was too expensive. I had tremendous anxiety about eating out, and when I got involved in travel synchronized swimming it was a problem. The first time I went to a swim meet without my mother, I was terrified to order breakfast in the hotel.

It was super scary to spend money and to ask for what I wanted. In our family, we had had been raised to eat what was served and never raise a fuss. Who was I to tell someone to bring me food? I felt self-conscious, awkward, and unworthy.

Gradually, eating in restaurants became easier, yet for many years my choices were still focused on the price of the meal, even though I could afford it.

It finally dawned on me that this was not a money story; It was a confidence story.

Once I realized that I made a decision to order whatever I wanted.

My decision came from a place of worthiness.

These days when a waiter describes the chef’s specials with prices, I ignore the price comments. Whatever it is, if I want it, I order it. Changing my personal belief around my worthiness, allowed me to release my limiting beliefs. Bring on the crab legs.

The same rules apply when it comes to investing in your fitness.

Once you embrace your worthiness, making your fitness a high priority becomes necessary. It’s not part of your disposable income. It is your primary health care.

There is another fact to consider here: Once you understand that your fitness is more than just aesthetics, it becomes even more evident that your fitness expenses are your primary health care. Your quality of life depends on how you prepare your body for what lies ahead.

Some programs are cheap, and like most things in life, you get what you pay for.

Don’t compromise. Remember your worth. Hire a trainer or program that specializes in your age range. Do this so that you can enjoy the benefits of having a stronger and more mobile body.

Strength and mobility are your weapons in fighting age-related limitations. Sedentary people are making a choice to settle for feeling the effects of aging much sooner than those who actively work on strength and mobility.

Becoming strong and staying limber will feed your confidence and keep your body young for as long as possible. Looking better in your clothes is a benefit as well, and this will, in turn, boost your confidence and further reinforce your worthiness.
