This week, I’m going to share some fresh audio to break up your typical workout music playlists.
Playlists for the gym are essential for a great workout, and changing up your usual rap, country or classic rock can mean renewed motivation.
Below are some of the most notable recordings that have made my hardest workouts fly by.
Please leave your comments, because in a future blog I may share my favorite podcast episodes, and possibly start a podcast for maternal and/or midlife fitness.
A Year of No Sugar
A Hilariously narrated memoir by Eve O. Schaub, narrated by Hilary Huber with John LeeThis book caught me off guard. I expected this to be all research and dry, and certainly not workout entertainment. However, the narrators’ salty attitude made me laugh my way through my toughest workouts. I actually saved this for my dreaded HIIT sessions.
The Best of Les Brown Audio collection.
Featuring Les Brown. Les is a popular motivational speaker. He is equal parts entertainer and motivator. This is another great choice for harder workout sessions.
Aside from the laughs, he drives home some thought-provoking messages. He asks the listeners to think about their life in three areas and to take action. By the time you get done laughing, you will find yourself believing in your ability to do more with your life.
The Power of Vulnerability by Brene Brown…
Teachings on Authenticity, Connection, and Courage. This is a series of talks that were recorded live and later published for Audible. While all of Brown’s books are inspirational, I much prefer to listen to her speak. She is a master storyteller.
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson… A counter Intuitive approach to living a good Life read by Roger Wayne.
Just like Brene Brown, this is a great read, and an even better listen. This book practically has a cult following, check it out to see what it’s all about.
365 Thank Yous… The year a simple act of Daily Gatitude Changed my Life
Written and narrated by John Kralik. As Kalick begins his story you can truly feel his pain. He was pretty much a jerk and deserved to be right where he was. He managed to depart from his personal pain island and nurture the relationships in his life by utilizing gratitude. This was a game changer for me, and it made me look forward to my workouts so that I could find out how Kalik managed to turn his life around.
The Fit and Nourished Mind Podcast
Episode #34 “Being Fit, Being a Mom, and Finding Your Purpose” with women’s’ fitness expert and mom Judy Arazoza (yours truly) by Emily Gough and Kate Horner. In this interview, we chat about real issues of raising kids, being fit and turning a passion into a thriving business. “Necessity is the mother of invention”
